The Effects of Reality Therapy-Applied Group Art Therapy on the Life Satisfaction and Ego Integrity of the Elderly with Hansen's Disease

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to investigate the effects of reality therapy-applied group art therapy on the life satisfaction and ego integrity of the elderly with Hansen's disease. The subjects were a total of 24 old people aged 70 or above who used DM Senior Center in W city, and 12 among them were assigned to an experimental group and a control group, respectively. A total of 13 sessions for the group art therapy program were run, and each session was held for 60-90 minutes once or twice a week from May 9, 2020. As for research tools, a life satisfaction scale and an ego integrity scale were used. And two-way repeated measures ANOVA was carried out according to group types (experimental group and control group) and test periods (pretest and posttest) in order to verify the effectiveness of the program. Findings of this study are as follows: First, it was found that the group art therapy applying reality therapy had positive effects on improvement in life satisfaction of the elderly with Hansen's disease. Second, it was found that the group art therapy applying reality therapy was effective in improving the self integrity of the elderly with Hansen's disease. Based on these findings, discussion was suggested.
